October’s Room Challenge Is a 5-Day Sprint. Here’s the Plan.

Your Design Guide visual guide: how to refresh a small space in 5 days, one task a day

YOUR DESIGN GUIDE | ROOM CHALLENGE

In September, paid subscribers and I worked through the Entry + Living Room for thirty days, one lesson at a time.

October was supposed to be the next room.

Then life happened on my end, and the month got away from me. I’d rather tell you that than pretend the challenge quietly skipped a month.

So here’s what we’re doing instead.

Your Design Guide visual guide: how to refresh a small space in 5 days, one task a day
The 5-Day Small Space Refresh Sprint at a glance: five tasks, Monday to Friday.

The 5-Day Small Space Refresh Sprint

Five days. One task a day. Each one takes 15 to 30 minutes, and you don’t need to buy anything.

It’s built for small spaces: a studio, a small living room, a small bedroom, a tiny entry, an apartment where every piece has to earn its place. But every task works in a bigger room too, so if your rooms aren’t small, come anyway.

The schedule

  • Monday, Day 1: The 20-Minute Edit. Take three things out. Small rooms are almost never missing something. They’re usually holding one or two things too many.
  • Tuesday, Day 2: Measure the Walkways. The one measurement that decides whether a small room feels cramped, and the one piece I’d move.
  • Wednesday, Day 3: One Color, Three Repeats. The fastest way I know to make a room look pulled together with what’s already in it.
  • Thursday, Day 4: Light It Like a Designer. Three lamps, twenty minutes, and the bulb mistake that makes small rooms feel smaller.
  • Friday, Day 5: Style One Surface and Take the Photo. The finishing step, and the before-and-after.

Every post is free. Every post is short. If you miss a day, catch up on the weekend.

Why a sprint, and why free

The 30-day challenges go deep. They’re for paid subscribers and they take a month.

A sprint is the opposite. It’s the five things I’d do in a small room first, before any plan, any budget, any shopping. Most people never get to the plan because the room is too full to see it. The sprint clears that.

It’s also free because I want you to try the way I work before you decide whether the monthly challenge is for you.

How to follow along

Subscribe (free) and the posts land in your inbox Monday through Friday.

Do the task the day you read it. Twenty minutes, not a weekend.

Then come back and tell me in the comments what you moved or took out. I’ll be reading every one.

And on November 1

The monthly room challenges return.

November is Dining Nooks + Dining Rooms, just in time for Thanksgiving and holiday hosting. Thirty days, one lesson a day, for paid subscribers. I’ll share the full plan at the end of the sprint.

If you know someone with a small space

Send them this. The sprint is better with a friend who’s doing it the same week.
